Antique Lithograph Transfer Milk Glass Beer Stein Mug Set 1910
The first mug (photo left) is a rare antique Westmoreland Glass Co. mug hand painted with a transfer of a monk enjoying wine in a cellar setting, c 1910s. It weighs 1.2 lbs and measures approximately 4 1/2” tall.
The second mug (photo right) is a 1910 Cardinal Beer “Fallen Monk” mug from Scranton, Pennsylvania, made of lithographed milk glass, and depcts a monk who has fallen while carrying a basket of bottles with another monk standing nearby. It is part of a series of 4 mugs. It weighs 1.2 lbs and measures approximately 4 1/2” tall.
Monks have historically been involved in brewing beer/malty ales, particularly during Lent.
